We had our Thursday Evening Critique at Kelly's Cafe again and they are so nice. They make room for us at three beautiful and comfortable couches and then chairs for the paintings to be viewed from. We thank them very much for all they do. If you don't come for the critique you should check them out some time for the food. They serve crepes that are really good and you just don't find them often around town.

Thursday Evening Critique Group Meeting

Acrylic "abscape". Started out as an abstract.

 Thursday night's critique group was very interesting and fun. We had a very good time and had lots to contribute to each others art work. People brought in one or two pieces and one person was new and didn't bring anything in. I bring this up because this is perfectly fine. We still all had lots to say and it's a good way to get use to the group and see what it is all about.
We are a friendly and non threatening group. The point of our two groups ( Monday and Thursday) is to say what each person thinks is good about the art and to contribute what that individual thinks might be constructive information that could improve that piece. It's then up to the artist to use that information or not. The most important part of the information is to not take it personally or to be defensive about it. It is a good learning experience both to hear this and to examine others work and be able to talk about art in this way.

Featured Artist for September Wed 5

Marleen Farley is our featured artist for September 2012.

Maureen Farley is inspired by the grace and beauty of animals and the natural world. She has enjoyed a lifelong love of painting and drawing which lead to a B. A. degree from the University of Nevada in psychology and fine art. Her artistic achievements include receiving the Douglas County Historical Association Photography award, the Carson Valley Library Award, as well as many awards from the Nevada Artist Association and Western Nevada College.

Her favorite media are colored pencil, digital photography, and transparent acrylic collage. She is known for painting original harmonious images of birds and animals. 
"At this time I am exploring mixed media and collage to produce free flowing abstract assemblages." The assemblages appear to have a fluid quality as they represent the interaction between mankind and our natural environment. She arranges interesting found objects such as colorful rocks or leaves with man made materials including transparent glass and beads. 

The creations are designed to be felt as well as seen due to the depth of the textural qualities. After she fuses the elements aesthetically they are permanently sealed with a non yellowing transparent acrylic glaze. 

She has been selected to join the Avant-Garde Art and Craft Shows organization  in North East Ohio.

Robert received two awards during May’s ArtsWorks/’11 exhibit.  His painting “Portrait of a Friend” received the Best Emerging Artist Award from juror Mel Grunau,  and “Tropical Paradise” received the most votes from exhibit goers and was awarded the “People’s Choice Award.”

Valorie Snell

After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, Valorie Snell moved to San Francisco where she lived for a few decades as a freelancer in photography and commercial art.

Always interested in acquiring new skills, Valorie learned to metalsmith, make jewelry, design and construct stained glass, and even studied with a Master in Chinese Ink Painting.  She currently lives in Brunswick and continues to take classes and workshops. "I love art and always want to learn more every day."

Valorie is very active in Brunswick Art Works, Medina County Art League and Midwest Photography Enthusiasts Group (MPEG) and she has even started a Brunswick Bread Bakers Club. You may find more of her artwork in art shows and local businesses around Ohio.
