Thursday Evening Critique Group Photos

We had our Thursday Evening Critique at Kelly's Cafe again and they are so nice. They make room for us at three beautiful and comfortable couches and then chairs for the paintings to be viewed from. We thank them very much for all they do. If you don't come for the critique you should check them out some time for the food. They serve crepes that are really good and you just don't find them often around town.

Critique Group Thurs Night

 Wonderful critique group meeting at our regular meeting place. Kelly's Cafe is a nice comfortable and warm feeling for talking about our art. We can have a little something to eat or drink too if we like.

 Viewing the art first before contributing comments helps to organize our thoughts.

 Matting helps a lot to view a painting to talk about it even though it may or may not be finished yet.

We had a wide variety of styles and media represented this evening.  It is so scary to present your art to a group, especially in public, and especially if you are a relatively new artist.   Of course, it is also difficult to critique..   I applaud everyone who participates in these critiques for being willing to risk.  We're all learning.

Evening Critique Group Debut

Our cozy group began by determining some guidelines for the group.  The group then decided it would be fun and informative to warm up with some critiques of paintings by Masters of the past.  Because Mario is especially interested in portraiture, we critiqued "Alfred Sisley and His Wife" (detail) by August Renoir, 1868, Oil on canvas (above).  Another painting that we critiqued, "View of the Village of Castelnau-le-Lez" by Frederic Bazille, 1868, Oil on canvas (above).  We then critiqued our own work.

At future meetings we will be critiquing participants' work only.
