Humiliating (But Cheap) Drawings: The art of street caricature by Rob Weske

Join us on January 5th as award-winning caricaturist, and Brunswick resident, Rob Weske demonstrates his art as he tells us a little bit about how he got into this business.  You may even have an opportunity to try your hand at it!

Rob Weske
Rob has been a professional caricaturist since high school and was hired as a political cartoonist at age 14 at the Oswego Valley news in his hometown of Fulton NY.  He attended the Art Institute Of Pittsburgh, and later, at New York University’s Tisch School Of The Arts.  Rob's clients have included Macy’s Department Store (the one on 34th street in NY), Miller Beer, Harley Davidson, The Pittsburgh Pirates, Alcoa, Shirley Jones (the actress from The Partridge Family), Penthouse Magazine, The NBC TV Show ER, Penn State University, Akron University, ex-Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell, and Time Warner.

As a broke college student living in New York, he took his portfolio to Mad Magazine as an attempt to find work. Their editors liked his work and recommended that he apply at their sister magazine Cracked. Upon meeting with them, they purchased two pages from his sketchbook on the spot, launching a 10 year relationship.

Eight years ago, Rob moved to Ohio to become the Promotion Manager for WOIO/WUAB TV.  His artwork  hangs outside their building in downtown Cleveland—the My 43 WUAB TV logo that is used is his handwriting—drawn with a sharpie marker!

Rob has been recognized with four Emmy Awards, a Promax Silver award, an Associated Press Award, several Telly Awards and a National Pinnacle Award.

Rob will make  drawings of volunteers. Guests will learn the basics of drawing caricatures. The session is interactive, so everyone should bring a chisel point or sharpie marker ( fine point ) and a firm surface to draw on. Card stock paper will be provided.

Bring the whole family.  This is going to be a FUN program for ALL ages... not to be missed!
