Featured Artist for September Wed 5

Wednesday    Sept. 5th

7:30 P.M.

                  Brunswick City Hall

                     4095 Center Road.

Marleen Farley is our featured artist for September 2012.

Maureen Farley is inspired by the grace and beauty of animals and the natural world. She has enjoyed a lifelong love of painting and drawing which lead to a B. A. degree from the University of Nevada in psychology and fine art. Her artistic achievements include receiving the Douglas County Historical Association Photography award, the Carson Valley Library Award, as well as many awards from the Nevada Artist Association and Western Nevada College.
Her favorite media are colored pencil, digital photography, and transparent acrylic collage. She is known for painting original harmonious images of birds and animals.
"At this time I am exploring mixed media and collage to produce free flowing abstract assemblages." The assemblages appear to have a fluid quality as they represent the interaction between mankind and our natural environment. She arranges interesting found objects such as colorful rocks or leaves with man made materials including transparent glass and beads.
The creations are designed to be felt as well as seen due to the depth of the textural qualities. After she fuses the elements aesthetically they are permanently sealed with a non yellowing transparent acrylic glaze.
She has been selected to join the Avant-Garde Art and Craft Shows organization  in North East Ohio.

Bill is an award-winning local photographer whose lifelong interest in photography blossomed with his early retirement from college administration in 2002.  He started a successful photography business after finding he enjoyed capturing feelings, moods, and candid moments at weddings and events.  He also enjoys creating images of landscapes, wildlife, and urban settings.  His work is currently being displayed in juried shows at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown.  Whether bicycling across Europe with a camera strapped to his back or shooting scenes at a local park, Bill’s enthusiasm for photography is infectious.  He sees it as the perfect medium for a guy transitioning from button-down shirts to jeans and sneakers.

Sophia is Truly Sophisticated

Local artist, Sophia Smith is from Medina and is a fourth grader at Ella Canavan Elementary.  Although she may be small, Sophie has already put together quite a portfolio and list of accomplishments for her age.  Her home environment is nurturing in creativity, as her mom, grandmothers, and even grandfathers have taught her different aspects and techniques in art.   At school, she has had the support and encouragement of a fantastic art teacher.  Her accomplishments include having 2 pieces of artwork displayed at Medina Hospital during the summer months, being selected by Akron’s Children’s Hospital to have a painting framed and displayed in a patient room, and was the youngest vendor at the Medina International Festival in which she displayed and sold her jewelry creations.  This summer her plans are to participate in local craft fairs and festivals in which she can promote her jewelry business, “Sophistication by Sophia.”
Sophia will be speaking on what inspires her and her work, the development of her company, and what she has learned about running an art business at such a young age.

You are invited to join us to hear this delightful young lady speak on Wednesday, May 2, at 7:30 PM in the Council Chambers of Brunswick City Hall.
