No Meet the Artist January 2013

Just a little reminder that there will be no meeting for Meet the Artist for January due to the holidays...and perhaps the weather.

Speaking of the weather, if you are unsure if there will be a meeting, if schools are closed, our meeting is canceled.

Photos of Artist of Month Molly Sotherden

Our Artist of the month, Molly Sotherden, gave a beautiful lecture and showed wonderful samples of her work. We hope you were able to attend and ask questions. You could see her work up close and personal and learn all about an art that few people do. Stained class is beautiful and rare art these days.

Thursday Evening Critique Group Photos

Pastel by Mario Ortez

We had our Thursday Evening Critique at Kelly's Cafe again and they are so nice. They make room for us at three beautiful and comfortable couches and then chairs for the paintings to be viewed from. We thank them very much for all they do. If you don't come for the critique you should check them out some time for the food. They serve crepes that are really good and you just don't find them often around town.

Artist of the Month December 5th Wed

Our December 5th Artist of the Month is Molly Sotherden. Please come join us for a free meet, greet and show of her artistry.

.
Molly's biography is very interesting:
One of her only clear memories from the 8th grade field trip to Washington, D.C. was the moon rock stained glass window in the National Cathedral. Five years later, my college years were filled with a fine arts degree, and an emphasis on stained glass design and creation.  After graduating summa cum laude, I was hired on at one of the big stained glass studios in the Pittsburgh area, and worked for several years as a designer and conservator of stained glass windows of all sorts and all reputations.  When the economy started to fall apart (it started happening in the stained glass industry in the months after 9-11), I was laid off.  I have more than my fair share of stubborn, and decided to open my own studio in the midst of the worst economy since the Depression.  A healthy dose of stubborn, doing what I love, and a disgustingly overdeveloped work ethic has kept me in business since.

Meet the Artist

Donald Woods will be our artist of the months this Wednesday at 7:30 at the Brunswick City Hall.
4095 Center Road
free

Don grew up in Akron and was torn between his love of playing the violin and painting. He received many art awards while in H.S. and studied art at Akron Univ. After graduating, he worked in sales and management for over 20 years before returning to college to obtain his license in teaching art. He was hired by Lorain schools and began playing violin and painting again.

He now concentrates on painting birds and "showing the beauty and wonder of God's creations." His dream is to become a professional artist.

Come join in and hear about his work and style and be able to ask the artist himself any questions you like.

Thursday Night Critique Group

Photograph printed on metal by Bill Beuther

We had a lovely evening on a cold and rainy night. Our meeting was after our horrible historical storm Sandy and it was a nice reprieve. Some people were not there and we hope that everything is fine with them and family. We hope that all is fine with all our readers and their families.
